Botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin is one of the most widely used preparations in aesthetic medicine. Its action includes not only the effective reduction of facial wrinkles, but also treating problems such as hyperhidrosis and bruxism. As a result, it is used not only to improve appearance, but also to significantly improve the quality of life in patients with ailments that impede activities of daily living.

What is botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, used in small, tightly controlled doses as a type A neurotoxic drug. Preparations available in aesthetic medicine all undergo rigorous quality and safety testing.

How does botulinum toxin work?

The mechanism involves the toxin binding to nerve endings, blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and, as a result, temporarily “paralyzing” the muscles or sweat glands. As a result, facial muscle tension is reduced, and sweat glands stop overreacting to stimuli.
