Chemical and medical peeling – what is it and what are the effects?

Peelings are treatments that involve controlled exfoliation of dead skin and, in the case of stronger forms, reaching into the deeper layers of the skin, leading to repair processes and collagen synthesis stimulation. They are used to smooth the skin, improve skin tone, reduce wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scars and as a part of anti-aging therapy. At DAGDERM clinics in Warsaw, we offer a wide range of peels tailored to individual patients' needs.

How the peels work

The mechanism of chemical peeling action is based on the application of appropriately selected acids (e.g. glycolic, mandelic, pyruvic, TCA), which cause controlled loosening and exfoliation of the stratum corneum. As a result, the skin regenerates intensively, collagen and elastin synthesis increases, firmness improves, and the surface becomes smoother and more uniform.

Chemical and medical peeling

Medical peels are recommended for patients with:

  • acne and post-acne lesions
  • discoloration and uneven skin tone
  • wrinkles and loss of firmness (as anti-aging prevention)
  • skin in need of revitalization, e.g., around the eyes or showing signs of photoaging
