Examination of skin lesions

Our skin is exposed to the sun, pollution and environmental factors every day. Regular skin examinations allow early detection of worrisome lesions, such as melanoma or other skin cancers, which often develop unnoticed. Early diagnosis provides a great chance for a full recovery. Dermatoscopy and videodermatoscopy are quick, safe and painless examinations that help take care of skin health. At DAGDERM clinics in Warsaw, we offer professional diagnostics of skin lesions using modern equipment and under the care of experienced dermatologists.

Dermatoscopy

Dermatoscopy is a non-invasive method of skin diagnostics that involves visual analysis of lesions with a special device – a dermatoscope. The dermatoscope has a 10× magnification and built-in illumination to visualize the deeper structures of the lesion being viewed. This allows the doctor to accurately assess the structure of the skin and notice changes invisible to the naked eye.

The test is extremely helpful in detecting the early stages of melanoma and other skin cancers. Dermatoscopy is completely safe and requires no preparation.

How long does a dermatoscopy take?
The examination is short and comfortable – it takes about 20 minutes.

Indications for dermatoscopy:

  • presence of numerous moles and nevi,
  • lesions of irregular shape, color or size,
  • light complexion and susceptibility to sunburn,
  • cases of melanoma or other skin cancers in the family,
  • rapid enlargement or change in appearance of existing nevi.

How often to perform a dermatoscopy?
Skin examination with a dermatoscope is recommended once a year. Those at higher risk (such as a large number of nevi) should have their skin checked up to every 6 months.

Videodermatoscopy modern digital skin diagnostics

Videodermatoscopy is an advanced version of dermatoscopy that allows digital recording and archiving of images of skin lesions. This enables the doctor to precisely track changes over time and compare earlier images with the current condition of the skin.

The examination is performed using a special high-resolution camera, which allows for a highly accurate assessment of the structure of nevi and early detection of even subtle changes.

How long does a videodermatoscopy take?
Videodermatoscopy takes about 20 minutes, depending on the number of lesions being evaluated.

Indications for videodermatoscopy:

  • numerous moles that require ongoing monitoring,
  • skin lesions with an unusual appearance,
  • previous treatment for melanoma or other skin cancers,
  • preventive skin monitoring in high-risk individuals.

How often to perform a videodermatoscopy?
Videodermatoscopy should be performed once a year, or more often if indicated by a doctor.
