Lifting threads – what is the procedure and what are the results?

Thread lift is a minimally invasive method of improving the facial oval and firming the skin, based on the subcutaneous insertion of absorbable threads that mechanically lift tissues and stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis. The treatment is recommended for people with the first signs of skin sagging, and its effects last up to 2 years. The procedure is short, safe, requires no surgical incisions, and – when complying with recommendations – uncomplicated recovery.

What is a thread lift?

A thread lift involves the precise insertion of thin, absorbable threads under the skin, which create an internal “scaffold” for the tissues, lifting them and correcting the oval of the face. The sutures are made of biocompatible materials (e.g., polydioxanone) that gradually biodegrade while stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin.

How does a thread lift work?

The mechanism of action is two-step: first, the threads mechanically lift the tissues, improving facial contour, and then – as they dissolve – they stimulate an inflammatory response at the micro level, leading to intensive neocollagenesis and improved skin flexibility. As a result, the lifting effect lasts for up to 24 months after the procedure.

Who could benefit from these treatments?

The treatment is specifically recommended for patients who notice:

  • skin sagging and loss of firmness in the facial oval,
  • sagging cheeks (also known as jowls), jawline, or chin,
  • loss of skin density in the neck and décolleté area.

Perfect candidates include people between the ages of 30 and 60, with relatively good skin quality, who want to avoid more invasive surgical procedures.

What does the procedure look like?

1

Consultation and vector planning

The doctor evaluates the condition of the skin, documents it with photographs and draws the route of the threads on the skin.

2

Local anesthesia

We use a cream or injection to ensure patient comfort.

3

Thread placement

Using a thin needle or cannula, the threads are placed in the subcutaneous layer at planned depths.

4

Control and shaping

Once the threads are in place, the doctor gently contours the tissues, achieving the desired lifting effect.

5

Procedure completion

The puncture site is disinfected and protected with a dressing. The entire procedure usually takes 30-60 minutes

Post-treatment indications

  • Avoid facial massages and excessive facial expressions for 2–3 weeks
  • Use gentle cosmetics and avoid exfoliation treatments
  • Avoid high temperatures (sauna, tanning) and laser treatments for one month

Contraindications to the procedure

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
  • Active skin infections or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Autoimmune disorders and coagulation disorders
  • Tendency to scarring (keloids)

We always take a thorough medical history before the procedure to rule out any risk factors.

Effects of the treatment

  • Instant tissue lift and improvement of the facial oval
  • Gradual improvement in skin density and elasticity through neo-collagenesis
  • Effect can be maintained for up to 18–24 months
