Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is the most effective method of permanent hair removal, referred to as the gold standard in cosmetology due to the high effectiveness and low invasiveness of the procedure. The treatment not only helps achieve smooth skin, but also prevents inflammation of hair follicles and the problem of ingrown hairs.

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser emits a light beam with a wavelength of 630-1200 nm, which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, leading to thermal damage to the hair follicle. The damaged follicle structure stops producing new hair or produces much thinner and lighter hair. Regrowing hair may require further refreshing sessions.

Who should undergo these treatments?

Laser hair removal is specifically recommended for people with dark and coarse hair on fair complexions, where the contrast between hair and skin provides the greatest effectiveness of the laser. The treatment can be performed on all areas of the body – from the face, underarms and bikini, to the legs and back.

Course of treatment

1

Consultation and trial test

a specialist takes a history, evaluates the skin's phototype and performs a laser trial to check the skin's reaction to the beam.

2

The main hair removal session

the patient/recipient receives a series of laser pulses directed at the treatment area; the session usually lasts from a few minutes to several minutes, depending on the size of the area.

3

Cooling and soothing the skin

immediately after the procedure, the skin may be slightly red and heated, so cooling compresses or special soothing preparations are used.

Indications after the procedure

Avoid swimming pools, hot baths and strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours after hair removal to minimize the risk of irritation. Do not sunbathe or use tanning beds for 4 weeks after the treatment; when introducing sun exposure back, always use SPF 30-50 sunscreen.

Contraindications

The main contraindications include:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • fresh tan or skin inflammation (e.g., psoriasis, vitiligo);
  • active skin infections,
  • open wounds, blisters;
  • taking retinoids and photosensitizing drugs;
  • pacemaker, epilepsy, and cancer.

People with very light, red, or gray hair may not achieve satisfactory results due to low pigment levels.

Effects

The first results in the form of thinning hair are visible after just 1-2 treatments; full smoothness is usually achieved after 6-9 sessions, performed every 4-8 weeks. The longevity of the effect extends to several years, and any regrowth requires single refreshing sessions.
